Traveling With Braces: Summertime usually means vacation time. We hope each of you will enjoy a little time away this summer. Whether it is a camping trip to Northern AZ, a getaway to the beach, or an exciting adventure trip, don’t forget your braces when packing! Here are a few items you should be certain to take with you in addition to your trusty toothbrush.
Here are a few tips for emergencies while traveling:
Loose Band or Bracket: If still attached to the wire, leave it in place and try to put wax on it. If the band or bracket is completely out, keep it and bring to your next visit.
Poking Wire: Try to push it down using the eraser end of a pencil. Use wax if wire is still pokey.
Loose Wire: Try to put it back in place with tweezers. If you are not able to re-insert the wire, clip the wire using fingernail clippers behind the last tooth to which it is still fastened. Use wax if wire is still pokey.
Sore Teeth: Use warm salt water rinses and take Tylenol or Ibuprofen as recommended for your age. Some soreness is common.
Loose Appliance: Place wax on it to keep the appliance in tact until you return.
These tips should help while you are vacationing with your braces, if you have further questions don’t doubt on looking for orthodontists in your area that can help you out. And if you have any concerns while you are away, please don’t hesitate to call us!
